REDEVELOPMENT
OF LITHAIOS

The proposal for the redevelopment of the riverbed of the Lithai River was presented by the AKETH PIRATES team at the 4th Panhellenic Generation Next Competition of Vodafone. The team identified the need to enhance environmental awareness and citizen safety by proposing an integrated solution that utilizes Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to monitor the river level and flow in real time. Through a mobile phone app, citizens can be instantly notified of potential hazards such as flooding, enhancing the sense of security in the community.

In addition, the proposal includes the installation of smart lighting that is only activated when movement is detected, as well as an automatic watering system that operates based on soil moisture levels, helping to save energy and water resources. The energy autonomy of the facilities is ensured through solar panels, promoting the use of Renewable Energy Sources. This proposal reinforces the objective of Trikala to become a smart and sustainable city, incorporating technological innovations that improve the quality of life of its residents and protect the environment.
